Version 1.0 released

Hi folks,

The old version of the viewer timed out, so I've just rebuilt and uploaded a Version 1.0. This won't time out any more.

I didn't get time to make many changes, but I have added in PDF viewer support. When you extract the new .EXE, make sure that you also extract the "gs" folder. If the application finds this folder, it'll automatically add in the option to view PDFs.

Prototype #11 of 3D Comic Book Viewer

A few more tweaks, aiming at a final version.

- The page can't now go off-screen.
- Some other tweaks and optimisations

To do...

- Show all instructions at start up ( maybe as external .png, so people can customize? )
- Drag and drop files onto viewer?
- Custom icon
- Save custom options, and re-load at start-up
- When application is in background, ignore mouse and key presses

To do for future version...

- Show more than one page at a time
- Online version for viewing local images ( as web files, eg jpg, png, gif, as CBR/CBZ formats aren't supported web files )
- PDF viewer?
- Screen saver?

Prototype #10 of 3D Comic Book Viewer

This update now has a few new features and fixes...

- I managed to ( finally ) get the auto-fit-page-to-screen-width function working ( its on by default in this version ).

This is getting very near a final release, hopefully the next one will be v1.0!

As always, all comments and suggestions are welcome.

Prototype #9 of 3D Comic Book Viewer

I didn't get round to the auto-scale-width feature ( will def work on this next ).

However, this update now has a few new features and fixes...

- The stretching should be fixed now
- If you hold down the left mouse button without dragging ( which will drag the page ), you will toggle zoom in and out. This allows for very simple viewing with a single click ( Mac users / Tablet PC users ).

Prototype #8 of 3D Comic Book Viewer

This update now has better mouse scrolling functionality. Just click and drag, and you'll be able to scroll around the page. You can quickly drag and let go of the mouse button to get a nice scroll effect.

This makes it pretty easy to read pages using just the mouse, as right clicking toggles zooming in or out ( the mouse wheel also controls the zoom ).

I also fixed a potential issue with the loading order of comic books, if you are reading a number of CBZ/CBR files from the same folder.

Feel free to post any comments or suggestions that you would like to see in the final version!

PS If there are any good comic forums that you visit, who might find this viewer interesting, could you let me know ( or could you post and send them to this link )? I'd like to get as much feedback on the viewer as possible, before releasing version 1.

Prototype #7 of 3D Comic Book Viewer

This is an update of the viewer, for those who are finding previous versions timing out.

- Pressing S now gives a fancier slide show / screen saver style effect. The viewer zooms in on a few different areas of the current image, as well as rotating a bit, before rotating to the next page.

- Pressing <> will rotate the image interactively ( for no real reason, other than it's easy to do with 3D )

- This version will time out at the end of June. By then, I hope to have a version 1 complete.

Instructions on how to use the viewer can be viewed in the previous blog posts ( especially the first posting at the bottom of the page ).

I'll be working on the mouse dragging next ( the current way is definitely too weird - the new way will allow the user to grab a particular part of the page, and drag it around, similar to pressing SPACE and dragging in a PDF )

Feel free to post any comments or suggestions that you would like to see in the final version!

Prototype #6 of 3D Comic Book Viewer

Updates

- New slide-show option - press S to start and stop it. Pages will continually rotate, only pausing when the full page is shown to reload the next page.

- More loading optimisation code, to minimise the time spent loading and creating 3D textures of the new images.

- Multi-screen support - move the full-screen view to other monitors by pressing F to flip to the next screen.
